WHY JOIN?
Brotherhood
Imagine having forty or more of the closest friends you'll ever have. Brothers who will be there for you at any time of need. Sigma Chi offers a Brotherhood that transcends any social, economic, or political boundary. It is a Brotherhood that doesn't end when your four years are up, but lasts a lifetime.
Personal Growth
John Wayne, a famous film actor and Sigma Chi brother, once said, “Men join Fraternities, Leaders of Men join Sigma Chi.” Being around inspired and driven men leads you to take action and strive for something bigger in your own lives. The camaraderie and brotherhood of Sigma Chi allows you to bring out the best of your own personality, while encouraging others to do the same. Sigma Chi International also offers a certified leadership training this is nationally recognized in the business world.
Social Experience
The social experience of being in a Fraternity is unparalleled in college life. Greek life is a large community and it allows you to create so many connections in a very short time. A Fraternity experience often gives you some of the most fun memories of your life! Here at Sigma Chi we have many socials, mixers, and swaps with other Fraternities and Sororities. Sigma Chi also plans multiple events each year such as going to a beach formal, mountain formal, brothers retreat, or nascar race. These trips are covered by the chapter through dues at no additional cost!
Giving Back
Sigma Chi greatly values Philanthropy and good deeds. In the 2021 spring semester, our chapter raised and donated $10,762 towards ending women's cancer at the Huntsman Cancer Institute. We set the IFC record for Philanthropy at WCU with this donation. As of March 2022, Sigma Chi as a whole has raised $14,673,045 for the Huntsman Cancer Institute and also pledged an additional $20,000,000 so that we will be the generation to end cancer. Being a part of Sigma Chi will not only give you the opportunity to do something meaningful in our community, but also to give you the leadership skills and organizational ability to organize events that can really make a difference in people’s lives.
Scholarship
Sigma Chi has a minimum GPA requirement of 2.5. We offer countless benefits for the students who choose to go above and beyond. Our Headquarters gave out $517,500 in Scholarships in the 2019-2020 academic year! Our personal Western Carolina University's Alumni Association, the 1855 Society, gives out $1500-$2500 each year! The IFC at Western also gives out $2000 a year in Scholarships as well!
Recreation and Sports
Intramurals stars, extracurriculars participants, Division 1 athletes, and an NFL player who started in Super Bowl XXXVIII have called themselves brothers of Sigma Chi here at Western Carolina. Every member in the chapter is encouraged to seek out their interests and find what they like whether that be basketball, soccer, football, rugby, fishing, disc golf, tubing, kayaking, working out, etc.

Join Sigma Chi and have this vast Network at your disposal!
Diversity
As you will learn when you join, The Sigma Chi Fraternity was founded on the principle that friendship among members with different temperaments, talents, and convictions is superior to that of friendship among members with the same temperaments, talents, and convictions. Unlike many other fraternities, Sigma Chi does not have a stereotype, you will find Sigma Chi brothers in all walks of life, each with different interests and opinions.
Higher Standard
On of the most important parts of being a Sigma Chi is holding yourself to a higher standard. With everything you do, know that you are not only representing yourself but also your chapter and the fraternity in its entirety. Members of Sigma Chi must meet the minimum requirements set forth by The Jordan Standard which is a set of criteria authored by one of the Seven Founders of Sigma Chi, Isaac M. Jordan. There's something that comes with the Sigma Chi name that causes people to look up to you and expect more from you. Holding yourself to that higher standard will not only drive you to be a better person, but a more satisfied and respected individual.
